Rachel & George, like many couples, met in college.
Their relationship led to this incredible spring wedding at Baldoria on the Water in Lakewood, CO.
The Cottonwood trees this year in Colorado were INSANE. Kind of like snow - and in a quiet moment together after their ceremony, the cotton sprinkled around them. I had cotton all over myself and my camera bag at the end of the day, but it created some magical photos!
Do you want to know why I love Doug & Hana so much?
Because they didn't care if it was snowing or raining on their wedding day, they were just so excited to be getting married. They saw and understood the value of that day, or that moment, above all else. I appreciate that and believe in it myself!
Their wedding was held in the spring (April), but we were surprised when the day turned into a winter wonderland.
Sometimes Colorado weather throws us for a loop on wedding days. April weddings are always interesting here; it can be 70 and sunny, or 30 and white-out-blizzard.
Doug & Hana's snowy wedding at the Meadows at Marshdale in Evergreen, CO is a classic example of 'never trust the weather report'!
I am one of those 'but the groom matters too' kinds of wedding photographers.
The day is no longer just about the bride; it's about the couple as a whole!
I absolutely love unique Colorado weddings, and I especially love when couples put equal amounts of love and attention into the respective outfits that they plan to wear.
Today's post is all about inspiring groomswear ideas, and why HIS attire matters too!
Grooms-wear ideas (and why his attire matters too)
Kristine & Aaron are a fun couple who first met at Illegal Pete's in Denver. Together at the outdoor bar, they sparked a relationship that would ultimately lead to their small Colorado wedding at the Maroon Bells in Aspen, CO.
We decided to use this opportunity to style a date night engagement session; they wanted to share their relationship in a way that was uniquely personal to them! Illegal Pete's is a hip, awesome hangout in Denver, and it was a fun opportunity for them to be more candid on camera.
Not only am I sharing a few photos from their date night engagement session, but I wanted to give you a few reasons why focusing on candid engagement photos may be right for you!
Michele and Kevin had a classic and romantic Colorado wedding, sharing their vows at the Three Trees Chapel in Littleton, CO before dancing the night away at their Westin Denver downtown hotel reception.
This quaint, super sweet little chapel is tucked in the foothills with natural light and views of the hogback; it's romantic, beautiful, and the perfect spot for a classic fairytale style Colorado wedding!
The Westin has the most epic escalator, providing the perfect opportunity to match chic city downtown with soft florals, a stunning lace wedding gown, and a super fun couple from California. I absolutely love working with couples who are planning their Colorado weddings from out of State!

'Remember the move Bride Wars? Candice Bergen plays the role of a sought after 'high end' wedding planner; she carries an attitude that is arrogant, pretentious, and confident in the face of two best friends vying to have the most opulent and perfect wedding.
This over the top story is what many people think of when it comes to the idea of hiring a wedding planner; reserved perhaps for only luxury events, large weddings, and formal etiquette.
I happen to know that my couples are nothing like ‘Olivia’ and ‘Emma’, and that the wedding planners I recommend are nothing like ‘Marion St. Claire’.
There is so much more to the wedding planner story!
Steve and Cori were very clear that they wanted their wedding to be a party. They wanted their ceremony to be special, but not too long because they wanted to dance all night at the reception. They specifically told me that they wouldn't be doing any sort of special exit because they planned on being the last ones out the door. I knew right then that we would have a great time on their big day!
Cori was absolutely relaxed while getting ready. She kept the day super simple, chatting with her family and making jokes with her sister. I could tell she was so ready to see Steve by the time we photographed their first look. They were giddy when they saw each other. After a few portraits, it was time for the ceremony. Cori's sister Paige officiated it and did an excellent job. It was such a special touch to see the strength of their sisterhood and Paige's admiration and respect for Steve. It's those kind of moments in weddings that make my job so incredibly fun.
Well, that and a couple who throws a damn good party like Steve and Cori! The reception was amazing and everyone who attended had such a blast! It was exactly what they intended for their big day. They had the coolest details that were so focused on their guests. For example, they had lottery scratch cards with everyone's name on them instead of plain name tags with table numbers. They also had giant Jenga and corn hole boards custom made so guests could play while they waited for the reception to begin. And for just a little extra fun, they had a fire pit with a s'mores station for people after they cut their cake! A lot of their guests were from out of town, and it was so obvious that they cared about everyone's experience that day.
From their vows to their absolute happiness to their incredible attention to detail to their desire for everyone to have fun—it was a true honor to be a part of this day. Steve and Cori emanate love and light; I knew it from the moment I met them. And watching their friends and family celebrate that love proved that even more. Thank you guys SO much for such a wonderful experience. I wish you all the happiness in the world!
I'm not the kind of gal that gets super excited about what I call the "fluffy" details of a wedding. You know, the perfect color scheme or the adorable favors or even the trendy donut bar. These are all well and good, but I'm after the real stuff—the look on the groom's face when he sees his bride for the first time. The emotional father daughter dance. The toast that everyone cries at. Those are the moments that make me love photographing weddings. And this wedding was full of the real stuff.
Matt and Karlye are my kind of people. They are high school sweethearts who love being outside and listening to live music. Their whole energy was full of life. And their wedding was exactly representative of who they are as a couple too: laid back and so, so in love. They got married at the Meadow Creek Lodge in Pine, Colorado, the perfect mountain setting for a couple that obviously feels most comfortable outdoors. Matt wore a perma-grin as Karlye came down the aisle, as did her father. Karlye's brother officiate the wedding which added such a special touch. They made their way through teary vows, and when it started to rain, they barely noticed. Matt walked his barefoot bride down the aisle after what can only be described as a celebratory kiss.
Their reception was one of the most emotional I've been to. They had extremely heartfelt speeches and there wasn't a dry eye in the house, including me! The people around them were so unbelievably supportive and genuinely happy to see them married. See what I mean? The real stuff!
Matt and Karlye, thank you so much for trusting me to capture this incredibly special day. When you guys turned toward your friends and family to be announced as a couple, I thought to myself, "This might be the happiest couple I've ever photographed." Your faces made it look like you just made the best decision of your entire lives. And I think you probably did.
Fall engagement photo sessions in Colorado are a favorite of mine! Nothing beats heading to the mountains and enjoying the crisp air and beautiful colors. So when Hana and Doug told me they were wanting an engagement session when the leaves were at the peak colors I was thrilled! We watched the trees like hawks until they were perfect....then headed up to Morrison, Colorado and spent the afternoon hiking, chatting about everything and laughing way too much. It was a perfect way to spend the day. I am so excited for their wedding at Meadows at Marshdale in Evergreen Colorado this April!
Mark and Danielle had one of those wedding days where everything just flows. From the moment I got there until the moment I left, it was easy, joyful, and most importantly, fun. This is a true testament to who they are as a couple. Their goal was to have a party that happened to celebrate their marriage and they absolutely achieved that.
They picked The Barn at Raccoon Creek for their venue and it was perfect for them—a little bit rustic with the feel of the country but not too far from the city. Danielle picked gorgeous burgundy bridesmaid dresses and they fit in so well with the outdoor backdrop and fall weather!
These two have known each other since middle school! Their relationship was so comfortable, as if they had already spent a lifetime together. Mark spent all day making Danielle laugh (and me!) and I can't think of a better way to begin a life together.
My favorite part of the whole day was taking photos at sunset with them. They got to relax and spend a few minutes alone together. It was one of the first times they were truly alone all day and I could tell they enjoyed every second of it. But as soon as we got back to the reception, they were ready to get the party started! And once the dancing started, it didn't stop! It was a huge party all night long.
I hope the rest of their lives is as much fun as this day was—full of so many laughs too! I'm so grateful to have played a small part in it.
